Once your switch is underway, you’ll need to provide an up-to-date meter reading to your new supplier. This helps make sure your bills are accurate and allows your previous supplier to produce a final bill and close your account.
If you don’t submit a reading, your supplier will use an estimated figure, which may not match your actual usage. As soon as we’ve completed the first switch for your property, you can submit your reading quickly and easily through your Switchd dashboard. Below, we’ll guide you through the steps.

How to submit meter readings via your Switchd dashboard
Log in to your Switchd dashboard - you'll need your personal email address and the password you created when you first signed up to us.
Go to the 'Meter Readings' section found on the left hand side of the dashboard as shown below.
Type your meter reading in the box indicated for electricity and gas accordingly. Then, you'll see the 'Submit' button light up and you can press it. The reading is automatically sent to your supplier and it will be recorded in your Switchd dashboard.
Remember to ignore any commas or punctuation when typing your readings as well as any numbers showing in red or after a comma/dot in your meter.

If your supplier is EDF or British Gas, you’ll need to submit your meter readings directly through their online portal. We’re working on a fix so that, in future, you’ll be able to send these readings via your Switchd dashboard.
It’s still helpful for us to have your readings. You can continue to record them in your Switchd dashboard.
To add a reading:
- Go to Meter Readings on the left-hand side of your dashboard.

Just remember, any reading entered here will not be sent to your energy supplier.
Do I still need to submit a meter reading if I have smart meters?
At the moment, we’re unable to connect to smart meters, so submitting meter readings helps us stay on top of your energy usage and ensure we’re recommending the best available deal for you.
You don’t need to send a reading every month, but we’d appreciate it if you could submit one at least every quarter (around every 3 months) or every 6 months.
