The MPAN and MPRN are the numbers that suppliers need to make sure that the energy meters they take over are for the correct property. Usually we are able to identify these numbers when you provide us with your address but sometimes we need you to confirm it for us. Here you'll find information to help you understand what these are and where you can find them.
This article covers:
What is an MPAN or MPRN?
Both are a unique set of numbers that identify your meters. These are used in the switching process to ensure that the right property is being taken over- we wouldn't want to switch your neighbour due to a misspelled address!
MPAN refers to Meter Point Administration Number and it's related to your electricity supply.
MPRN refers to Meter Point Registration Number and it's related to your gas supply.
Where can I find my MPAN or MPRN?
The easiest way to find this number is checking any recent bill. The MPAN will show in the electricity section of the bill in a particular format like the below, having 13 digits in total:
The MPRN tends to appear in the gas section of the bill and it will simply show as a 10 or 11 digit number.
If you need help finding these numbers, kindly send over a copy of your statement to team@switchd.co.uk and we'll be happy to look into this for you.
What if I don't have an energy bill?
If you've recently moved in to a new home, there are several alternatives to obtaining these numbers:
- Call the supplier that's already at the address and ask for this information - you will need to contact them anyway to sign up to them so might as well request these details too!
- Ask your landlord, letting agent, or the previous tenant.
- Contact your Energy Network Operator which you can find by using your postcode through this tool - Who’s my energy supplier or network operator? – Energy Networks Association (ENA).
- For your MPRN in specific, you can use the following tool - Find My Supplier or call Meter Point Administration Service on 0870 608 1524.
