Suppliers use meter readings to calculate how much energy you have consumed and therefore how much you owe them. This means that your bills will always be accurate as the supplier will never have to estimate your energy use.
You no longer have to manually submit meter reading
Because the smart meter sends reading meter readings directly to the supplier automatically, it means you don't have to!
You can see your usage
You will get an In-Home Display, for free which tracks your usage in real-time. This allows you to easily identify which appliances are using the most energy and make necessary changes to your improve your energy habits.
Cheaper tariffs
Many fixed tariff requires now include the requirement that you must have a smart meter or be willing to have one installed. To access these potentially cheaper deals, you may want to consider getting one installed. While it's not mandatory, opting out might limit your choices.

How to get a smart meter
If you would like to have your meter upgraded to a smart one just get in touch with your supplier. They will organise to have an engineer come to your property to install the new meter.
You can get in touch with the supplier through Switchd Dashboard’s option “Contact supplier. Their contact details, including their phone number, can be found on there. This function is only available if we've already switched you. If you're a new customer, you'll have to contact your supplier directly.
