'I'm owed credit, will I get this back? Answer is yes!'
This is one of the questions we're asked regularly. And the answer is yes!
As always, you will never pay for energy you haven't used.
In most cases, any remaining credit will be refunded directly to your bank account. However, if your supplier has ceased trading, your credit balance will be transferred to the new supplier as a last resort.
Typically, your previous supplier will issue your final bill within six weeks, followed by a refund of any credit balance within an additional 10 days. To help speed up the process, we recommend submitting your opening and closing meter readings on the day your switch is completed. If you have a smart meter, please note that it can take up to 30 days for your new supplier to receive your meter details. During this time, they may request a manual reading—this is completely normal!
If your previous supplier does not issue your final bill within six weeks, they are in breach of industry standards, and you may be entitled to compensation. You can easily reach out to your supplier using the Contact Supplier function on your Switchd dashboard. Be sure to select your old supplier rather than your new one.
